Medical Technician

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Prepares the collection site and for drawing blood cultures without contamination; Recognizes emergency testing situations and takes necessary action to direct the specimens to the proper location; Reference laboratory test and the test ordering procedures for each of the reference laboratories.; performs established quality control procedures to check the accuracy and validity of the test Results; Identifies unusual test results or discrepancies/conditions that can be erroneous results (instrument malfunction, conditions of test performance, reaction systems, and/or test procedures); Maintains adequate supplies for all phlebotomy and specimen procurement procedures; Performs other related duties as assigned. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received. Work Schedule:

You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. -AND- Applicant must possess six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience at the next lower grade level to fully qualify for this position. General experience is experience performing any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience (which should be documented on your resume) is:
technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking); preparing reports of findings; and technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. You must have successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described above or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.) -OR- COMBINATION:
You must possess equivalent combinations of successful completion of post-high education and experience, as described above. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
